You know it's summer when…

We have BLT's for dinner. There's something about this meal that just screams summer. Jason fries the bacon and he always burns the last few pieces just for me. The toaster can't keep up with us.

You know it's summer when the babes need to take more baths than usual.

You know it's summer when we visit Festival Park in Elgin. Kole loves running around in the fountain and getting splashed by the water. This place is usually packed so you have to be a little careful about other bigger kids running around. Kole gets knocked down at least once each time we've gone, but it doesn't seem to phase him. It's also a fun place to sit and people watch. This time I saw a kid's diaper fall off. It was all huge and puffed up from the water, which was hilarious in itself, then the thing just dropped and he ran around all naked!

You know it's summer when there is lots and lots of iced coffee. This kind is my favorite!

You know it's summer when chubby little legs stick through the holes of a baby swing. We walk to the park by our house almost every single day. It's so fun to watch these kids play together. And Kole is only a little bit territorial of the slide. This photo and the one below it were edited using the A Beautiful Mess photo app. It's free and one of my favorite apps for photos!

You know it's summer when this little man gets to golf. He is the cutest. He hits it and shouts, "in the hole!" You can tell he watches lots of golf on TV with his dad.

You know it's summer when tiny babies wear big ole' hats. There is nothing cuter.

You also know it's summer when we make frequent visits to Van's Custard. Last fall they moved locations from Carpentersville to East Dundee, which happens to be right where we live! We can walk there in about five minutes. I used to think this was a good thing, but it's becoming kind of dangerous. Van's is family owned and they are the nicest people who really get to know their customers.  Their custard is delicious. Each day they have a "flavor of the day" some of which include Nutella, Toasted Coconut, and Birthday Cake. They even have special flavors like Guiness for St. Patrick's Day and Carrot Cake for Easter.

At their new location they now serve burgers and fries. My husband is a huge fan of their burgers. And I highly recommend the sweet potato fries. If you're looking for a new place to eat and enjoy good food, you really need to check them out!

And finally, you know it’s summer when we head up north! We’re up here now and soaking up every second. We had an amazing 4th of July spent with family and friends. Here are a few pictures of our time so far. There’s more to come later!

  1. I love you theme of your post! You know it's summer when...very cute idea! It looks like you've been having a great summer so far! Your kids are adorable :) I love that photo app you suggested.. I use one similar but am always looking for other ones! I really love to take pictures but have never ventured into getting a nice camera of my own and learning about photography. I just like to use my phone and instagram lol.

You get to enjoy concerts outside! This is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. Every Thursday in St. Charles they have concert in the park where you can go with a picnic and listen to live music for FREE! I also enjoy paying to go to some concerts too. You should take your family sometime if you haven't already!

  2. JeanaLe, I just love your blog. What a fantastic way to document your family’s journey. I would have been content just looking at your pictures, but then you go and add in your catchy summer theme this post, and you have me hooked!

  3. I'm going to have to check out Van's! I am a sucker for any frozen treats and it looks delicious in your pictures. I especially like shops that aren't chains and come out with interesting flavors. My sister lives right by Bobtail in Chicago and I've always been jealous. Van's sounds like it will do the trick!

  4. You know its summer when . . . you can enjoy a beach day with your family. I love the title of your blog, I want to make it a fun writing prompt for my kids when they come back to school. Your children are adorable. The theme had me intrigued to read more. Thank you !!

  5. Nice. I agree that the theme keeping the whole post together works well. So many of the pictures that you posted had me thinking of summer with my kids (especially the tiny babies in huge hats). I'll have to check out Van's. I've driven past it so many times, but never really paid attention to anything in that little strip mall.

  7. Fabulous pictures. We just took a bunch on the 4th, when Zooey went swimming for the first time. Ridiculous.

I think Katie and I ate at a restaurant once that used to be in Van's new location. A Puerto Rican place? I remember it being pretty good, but closing down right after we'd gone there. Funny...now that I think about it, it was on the 4th of July that we went there, because we had biked from St. Charles to Dundee, through the rain, on a day that couldn't have been warmer than 60 degrees. Why did we do this, exactly? Because it was summer, and the weather wasn't going to convince us otherwise. Take that, meteorology!
